Ottawa Valley Irish: A Family History Weblog and Genealogy Database.

This website covers the family histories of a number of orville_allan_violinIrish and French Canadian families in the Ottawa Valley area, including the Morans of Huntley township; the Laheys and Killeens of March township; the McGlades of Perth; the McCarthys of Kitley township; and the Derouins of Otter Lake.

It also offers tips and tricks for the pursuit of Irish and Canadian genealogy: how to trace your Irish ancestry through Canadian sources; how to search the census records and census substitutes; how to decipher, translate, and interpret the Catholic parish records; and more.

The website has two main parts:

  • the family history weblog (aka the Blog)
  • the genealogy Database

Robin AverillBefore coming to Canada from Ireland, Robin Averill had established himself as a top class entertainer and vocalist with Ireland's popular showbands, "The Signs", and "The College Boys". He also toured extensively throughout Ireland, England, and Scotland.

Not long after arriving in Canada, Robin performed from coast to coast with his band in premium hotel and cabaret circuits. In addition, he made numerous radio and television appearances in both Canada and Ireland. For many years, Robin has given his time and talent to help raise funds for local charities and telethons.

Robin's career highlights include entertaining Canadian Prime Ministers, Governors General, and the President of The United States. He performed at the Expo World Fair in Vancouver, and with the Irish Showband Show at Waterfront Concert Hall in Belfast. Robin entertained the Canadian Armed Forces in Lahr, Germany on Canada Day, and has performed at country fairs, Irish and Scottish festivals, and tour shows in his native Ireland. Robin is currently launching his new CD and looking forward to leading a tour to Ireland in September. He will also be performing on his first Caribbean Cruise in Feb 2015.
